SELL SILVER · RHEINISCHE EDELMETALL

Sell silver and have it assessed in person.

If you would like to sell silver, Rheinische Edelmetall offers a personal valuation in the branch. We assess silver jewellery, silver cutlery, silver coins, silver bars, silverware and silver-containing items transparently, explain the calculation clearly and make you a traceable purchase offer.

The value of silver does not depend on weight alone. Fineness, authenticity, condition, recoverable material and the current silver rate are decisive. Silver-plated or merely silver-coloured items are not valued like solid silver.

Context

Why silver is not valued as a flat category.

Silver can be processed in very different ways. Solid silver, sterling silver, silver coins, silver bars, silver-plated items and silver-coloured materials differ significantly. That is why colour, shine or total weight alone is not enough.

Recognising fineness

Silver may have different finenesses, for example 800, 835, 900, 925 or 999. 925 silver is often called sterling silver.

Solid or silver-plated

Not every silver-coloured item is made of solid silver. Silver-plated pieces, alpacca or nickel silver are valued differently from genuine silver.

Personal assessment

The valuation takes place in the branch. You receive a clear explanation and decide only afterwards whether you want to sell.

Process

How selling silver works.

The process is deliberately clear: you bring your silver items to one of our branches, we assess material and fineness, explain the valuation and make you a traceable offer.

01

Bring silver with you

Bring silver jewellery, silver cutlery, silver coins, silver bars, silverware or silver-containing items to the branch. Even if you are not sure whether it is genuine silver, you can bring the pieces in for assessment.

02

Have the material assessed

We check whether the item is solid silver, a silver alloy, silver-plated ware or another silver-coloured material. Hallmarks, stamps, fineness, weight, authenticity and condition are taken into account.

03

Understand the valuation

You find out which factors influence the offer: fineness, recoverable weight, current silver rate, condition and recoverability. The rate value is a basis, but it is not automatically the purchase price.

04

Accept or decline the offer

If you accept the offer, the payout is made directly in the branch. If you do not want to sell, you take your silver back with you. You decide only after the assessment.

Precious metal rates

Current rates as orientation.

The current precious metal rates for gold, silver, platinum and palladium provide an initial orientation. When selling silver, the silver rate is especially relevant. A binding purchase offer, however, is only made after the specific material has been assessed.

Gold

112,70 €/g €/g fine metal

Silver

1,57 €/g €/g fine metal

Platinum

44,86 €/g €/g fine metal

Palladium

35,13 €/g €/g fine metal

The rates show the calculated value of fine metal. A purchase offer for silver is only made after assessment of the specific item in one of our branches. Silver items may therefore be valued differently depending on fineness, weight, condition and recoverability.

Valuation

What influences the value of silver.

A purchase offer for silver is based on several factors. The decisive point is not total weight alone, but whether recoverable silver is present and which fineness applies.

Fineness

800, 835, 900, 925 and 999 silver contain different proportions of fine silver. Fineness has a clear influence on the valuation.

Weight and recoverable share

For the valuation, the recoverable silver share matters. Other materials, handles, blades, fillings or non-silver components are taken into account.

Authenticity and hallmarks

Stamps and hallmarks can provide clues, but they do not replace assessment. Some items look silver-coloured without being made of solid silver.

Condition and recoverability

For silver cutlery, silverware, jewellery, coins or bars, condition, completeness, marketability and recoverability may all matter.

Types of silver

Which silver you can have assessed.

You can have different silver items assessed in our branches. Even if you are unsure whether the item is silver, silver-plated ware or another material, you can bring it in for assessment.

Silver jewellery

Rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants and other silver jewellery are assessed according to fineness, weight, condition and recoverability.

Silver cutlery

Cutlery, knives, forks, spoons, serving pieces or sets can be assessed. With handles, blades or fillings, the full weight does not automatically count as silver.

Silver coins

Silver coins are assessed according to authenticity, fineness, weight, condition and marketability. For individual coins, collector relevance may also play a role.

Silver bars

Silver bars are checked according to authenticity, fineness, weight, condition and current marketability.

Silverware

Bowls, cups, candlesticks, boxes, trays or other silverware can be valued. The decisive point is whether genuine silver is present and how much of it can be recovered.

Silver-plated items

Silver-plated pieces often contain only a thin layer of silver. They are therefore not valued like solid silver items.

Material clues

What hallmarks and silver stamps may indicate.

Many silver items carry stamps or hallmarks. These clues can help with an initial classification, but they do not replace assessment of the specific item. Some marks indicate fineness, maker, silver plating or material type.

800, 835, 900, 925, 999

These numbers may indicate silver content. 925 silver is often called sterling silver.

EP, EPNS or silver-plated

Such markings may indicate silver-plated ware. Silver-plated items usually have a different value from solid silver pieces.

Alpacca and nickel silver

Alpacca or nickel silver are not automatically silver despite the name. Such materials are classified differently.

Assessment on site

If you are unsure, simply bring the items with you. We assess them in the branch and explain the result.

Estates

Have silver from estates and house clearances assessed.

Silver is often found in estates, cutlery boxes, old cupboards or house clearances. It is not always immediately clear which items are made of solid silver, which are only silver-plated and which pieces may have additional collector or practical value.

You do not have to decide in advance which pieces you want to sell. Bring the holding with you or contact us beforehand if there are many items, complete cutlery sets, coin collections or special individual pieces.

Cutlery and sets

Complete cutlery sets, individual parts and serving pieces can be valued differently. Material and recoverable weight are decisive.

Coins and bars

Silver coins and silver bars are considered separately from cutlery or silverware because authenticity, fineness and marketability may be assessed differently.

Mixed holdings

Estates often contain silver, jewellery, coins, watches or dental gold together. An organised assessment helps with valuation.

Trust

Why silver should be assessed in person.

When selling silver, a flat estimate is difficult. Silver can be solid, alloyed, silver-plated or merely silver-coloured. Hallmarks, stamps, fineness, weight, condition and recoverability need to be considered together. That is why we rely on personal assessment, clear explanation and direct handling in the branch.

Clear explanation

We explain which factors influence the valuation: fineness, weight, authenticity, condition, hallmarks, material type and recoverability.

Direct decision

You decide only after the assessment whether you want to sell. If you do not accept the offer, you take your silver back with you.

Several branches

What to bring

What you should bring when selling silver.

For the valuation, we need the silver items themselves and a valid identity document. Additional documents may help, but they are not required for every item.

  • silver items you would like to have assessed or sell
  • valid identity card or passport
  • if available: certificates, purchase receipts, coin documents or information about origin
  • for cutlery sets: ideally all available parts and cases
  • for estates or larger holdings: existing lists, documents or sorting notes
  • other precious metals, jewellery, coins, bars or dental gold you would also like to have assessed
